"MLAs and MCD councillors were protesting peacefully against sealing by the MCD, the Delhi Police started unprovoked lathi-charge. Many were badly injured", AAP MLA Rakhi Birla claimed.
The protesters were allowed to gather at a particular spot on the Parliament Street, according to a Delhi Police statement.
"During the protest by AAP workers at Parliament street, Delhi Police had designated a place for protesters after meeting them".
MLAs, councillors and volunteers tried to march till Parliament, which is in session, on Monday to protest against the ongoing sealing of shops in markets across the city. Even after many requests and warnings they refused to go.
"The way the movement against sealing and foreign direct investment [FDI] is gaining momentum, the BJP though that they could suppress the movement by using the police on us".
The sealing drive is being carried out by a Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee against business establishments using residential properties for commercial purposes.
