Gerwig said that the recent revelations about sexual misconduct have made her reconsider her decision to work with Allen.
Many actors and actresses who have appeared in Allen's films have received criticism and been asked to explain why they chose to work with him, despite the filmmaker being accused of sexually abusing Farrow, who publicly renewed the claims in 2014.
Gerwig said, "It is something that I take very seriously and have been thinking deeply about, and it has taken me time to gather my thoughts and say what I mean to say".
Days after side-stepping questions about her work with Woody Allen, Greta Gerwig finally addressed the topic in an op-ed for the New York Times. Emma Stone hasn't spoken about her work with Allen, but declares "time's up" for, I suppose, other men. She regrets her decisions causing "another woman's pain", and that she was "I was heartbroken by that realization". It's been four years since she wrote her open letter detailing the abuse she says she suffered at the hands of Allen. "Thank you for your words", she tweeted. Farrow penned an essay putting the Hollywood industry on notice for its continuing support for her father, asking the NY Times' readers, "What's your favourite Woody Allen movie?" and following it with a detailed account of her sexual assault. "Please know they are deeply felt and appreciated".
Gerwig then made reference directly to Farrow's op-eds for the New York Times and LA Times, and their impact on her opinion of Allen.
Gerwig's To Rome With Love costar Ellen Page also recently denounced Allen, calling her role in his movie the "biggest regret" of her career. After her piece published in December, his rep, Leslee Dart, told USA TODAY: "Dylan Farrow's allegations against Woody Allen, which she first made 25 years ago, have been thoroughly examined by law enforcement officials and child welfare investigators".
"Woody Allen, legally, ethically, personally was absolutely a father in our family", Ronan tells the trade publication.
"I can certainly tick [making movies with Allen] off on my bucket list and the experience of working with him couldn't have gone better", Stone said.
