Protests have broken out across Pakistan after the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in a district south of Lahore, due to public anger at what is seen as the authorities' failure to investigate such cases.
The girl's father, who was in Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage when the incident happened, appealed to the country's chief justice and army chief to provide justice to his late daughter. The girl was strangled to death after being raped.
The anchor went on to share her outrage over Zainab's tragedy, mostly her sheer frustration as a parent that there had been no progress in tracking down the killer. He said they would not bury their daughter until those responsible were arrested.
Hundreds of thousands of people attended Zainab's funeral prayers amid scenes of mourning and tears on Wednesday night. The protesters were dispersed by the police through aerial firing which resulted several injured and 2 dead.
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he will not rest until the culprits are brought to justice.
Lawyers boycotted judicial proceedings at district bar in protest and demanded early action into the matter.

Zainab was first reported missing on January 5 by her uncle, the regional police office added.
Punjab government in the evening said six personnel, including four policemen and two civil defence personnel, who allegedly opened fire at the protesters have been arrested. This has led to an outpouring of condemnation on the streets and also on social media under the hashtag #JusticeForZainab.
Local media reports said the girl's murder was the twelfth such case in Kasur over a period of one year.
