Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is in hot water for calling United States Ambassador to Israel David Friedman a "son of a dog" over the weekend, yet it didn't really receive much coverage from USA media outlets.
In Washington, US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said, "President Abbas's comments were outrageous and unhelpful". However, their government was not recognised by Israel, US and their allies. Palestinians feel equally strongly, saying that East Jerusalem must be the capital of a future Palestinian state.
"This is a very grave incident in which the immunity and privileges granted to foreign missions in Israel was cynically exploited in order to smuggle dozens of weapons which could have been used in terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and members of the security forces", a senior Israel Security Agency official said.
In their weekly talking points brief, The Focus Project - an organization that features the consensus view of various Jewish organization on matter of Israel and anti-Semitism - noted the lack of attention on Abbas' comments in US media. Is that anti-Semitism or political discourse? "We will not", he said.
Abbas, who controls the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority government, said that he would respond to the attack with "national, legal, and financial measures". "I leave that all up to you".
Mr Abbas has already taken steps to put pressure on Hamas, including reducing electricity supplies to Gaza and cutting the salaries of former civil servants. They were uninjured. "We congratulate the two big brothers (Hamdallah and Faraj) that they are safe after the sinful and despicable attack that was carried out against them by the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip", Abbas said.
Adraee said that the Israeli military tanks destroyed a "monitoring point" of Hamas.
Hamdallah was uninjured in last Tuesday's attack, which saw a roadside bomb explode as his convoy entered Gaza in what Palestinian officials have called an assassination attempt.
"In my capacity as the president of the Palestinian people and I have tolerated much in order to regain unity and unite the homeland, I chose to take national, economic and legal measures against Hamas", the Palestinian leader told the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO)'s executive committee last Monday.
