Samsung Galaxy S9 is equipped with a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ sAMOLED Infinity Display. The 6-inch, 2160 x 1080 pixel display is stretched to an 18:9 aspect ratio, so this would suit someone looking for a lot of screen for not much money - €399 (US$490) to be exact. Both models are also IP68 dust and water resistant. Of course the S9 and S9+ run on the latest mobile processors (that would be Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 in the U.S. and China; and Exynos 9810 for the rest of the world) and the S9+ phone has had its RAM (temporary memory) bumped up to 6GB. A character could be selected from the Galaxy S9's stable and it would mimic expressions, head gestures and mouth movements as the user spoke. The devices now support expandable memory of up to 400GB with a Micro-SD Card.
But analyst Carolina Milanesi of Creative Strategies warns that despite the improvements, the new camera is competing with already good cameras in earlier Samsung phones.
On the security front, both the smartphones offer facial recognition along with a Iris scanner.
From a technical standpoint, the primary cam can go either f/1.5 or f/2.4 and nowhere in between.
The only difference is the fingerprint sensor placement that has now shifted below the camera module instead of sitting on the right side of camera on the S8.
Samsung has also launched Apple's Animojis competitor called AR Emoji. And, the F1.5 wide aperture for dark photos is the widest aperture in a smartphone. One of the key features is Super Slow-Mo video, which records 720p at 960fps.
The S9 has a dual aperture camera. Samsung has also updated Bixby with better search. But sometimes it does come time to retire your trusty device, and thus begins the lengthy process of picking your next mobile.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 plus are officially proceeding on sale in global markets like the U.S., etc on March 16. Users can experience the shiny joy of the S9 in 4 different colors - Titanium Grey, Lilac Purple, Midnight Black and Coral Blue. In the U.S., Verizon, AT&T and Sprint are raising prices from what the S8 cost at launch - to almost $800 for the regular-size S9 and more than $900 for the larger S9 Plus.
