They completed the investigation into the horrific rape and murder case of Asifa in reportedly "record time" and had finally filed the chargesheet to the magistrate on April 9, at least 10 days ahead of the 90-day deadline fixed by the High Court.
She hailed the country's political leadership, the judiciary, the media and the civil society for standing with the Jammu and Kashmir government to ensure justice for the eight-year-old victim in the case.
While a minor was raped in Unnao and her subsequent pleas for an FIR allegedly ignored by state police because a BJP MLA was reportedly involved, an eight-year-old girl in Kathua was first kidnapped, then sedated, raped and murdered. Her body was found in the same area a week later.
Earlier, BJP General Secretary and its Kashmir pointsman Ram Madhav, who was here to attend the party's legislature meeting said that resignation letters are now being forwarded to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. "I and the ministry intend to bring an amendment to the POCSO Act asking for the death penalty for rape on children below 12 years", the Union minister said in a video posted on YouTube. "She was attractive and we loved her", she says. "When our policemen are killed fighting militants in Kashmir, the same people call them (police personnel) patriots, but when our policemen investigate cases where the identity of the perpetrators does not suit them, and they want to protect the accused, J&K Police becomes untrustworthy overnight". Defending two BJP ministers following the Kathua gangrape and murder case, Ram Madhav said the two participated in the rally to pacify the crowd.
They will visit the state and reach out to office-bearers of the Bar Associations of Jammu and Kathua and also meet the affected families and the common people to figure out what actually transpired, Mr Mishra told reporters here.
"My only wish is the culprits should be hanged for the heinous crime so that no other family has to go through it".
Later, during investigation, the police arrested the caretaker and alleged that he was the mastermind of kidnapping, rape and killing of the girl from a nomadic tribe with an ulterior motive of terrifying the community and driving them out of the village.
Basotra said they were concerned over the security threat posed by Rohingya as they had got Aadhaar cards.
