Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has released a 30-man provisional squad for the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup in the summer.
Twenty-six-year-old Nwankwo's invitation is a confirmation of an exclusive story by The PUNCH on April 24, 2018 which revealed that Rohr would include the striker in his provisional squad for the World Cup.
He said: "We need to commend the effort of the coach that he was able to come out with this list in spite of pressure from agents of some unfit players".
"These are the best legs without a doubt; majority of them took us through the qualifiers unbeaten in a tough group with a game to spare, so we are confident they have what it takes to deliver in Russian Federation".
"The (home-based) boys have a little chance if they play very well for their clubs; you know we have to take the fittest also".
According to him, the need for commendation stemmed from the fact that some Nigerians had anticipated that he would succumb to pressure from interest groups, but the list has proved them wrong.
Most of the players that executed the qualification campaign to the football showpeice were included in the squad.
Others in the list released yesterday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Enyimba FC), Francis Uzoho (Deportivo La Coruna, Spain), Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa United, South Africa), and Dele Ajiboye (Plateau United).
The Defenders are Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, Brian Idowu, Elderson Echejile, Shehu Abdulahi, Ola Aina, Tyrone Ebuehi, Stephen Eze and Chidozie Awaziem.
Chelsea wingback Moses was Nigeria's top scorer in the qualifying campaign with three goals, while Captain Mikel Obi, Iwobi, Simon and Iheanacho weighed in with two goals each.
