And beyond new anniversary skins, players can look forward to a whole new free-for-all Deathmatch map called Petra. While Blizzard remains tight-lipped about specifics, Game Director Jeff Kaplan commented on the rising demand for a Tuxedo Doomfist skin in the most recent Developer Update video.
After spreading his appreciation for the fans, he gave some more insight on Petra, the new deathmatch-exclusive map. There are eight Legendary Skins, and we think they're really impressive. He then promised great diversity in the map for both short-range heroes and snipers, which is great for all the Hanzo 2.0 mains out there. Included is a range of new content such as over 50 cosmetic items, a new death match map, and all previous seasonal cosmetic items. What we do know is the game has a LOT of players. The season will unfold on Petra and Chateau. In a move to make these Anniversary Loot Boxes more special than ever before, they'll now include a guaranteed Anniversary item and a chance to get an item from all past seasonal events since launch.
Beginning on May 22nd, a large event will take place to celebrate Overwatch's two year anniversary. "Plus, if you decide to purchase Overwatch after test driving the game, you'll get to keep any progress that you made during the weekend-just be sure to use the same Blizzard, Xbox Live, or Sony Entertainment account that you played on". Players logging during the event will receive a bonus Legendary loot box, guaranteeing one Legendary item.
Additionally, Overwatch Twitter account has shared the exciting announcement that Overwatch Anniversary will kick off on May 22 and bring back past brawls and cosmetics!
