At long last, the UFC has made its debut in Russian Federation official.
MMA Fighting reports that UFC has officially announced a UFC Fight Night event for Moscow on September 15.
After years of speculation as to when and if the Ultimate Fighting Championship would hold a card in Russian Federation, the promotion has finally announced it's debut event.
The company also announced the appointment of Andre Gromkovski to vice-president of UFC Russia.
"Russia is a key part of UFC's worldwide expansion strategy", commented David Shaw, Senior Vice President, UFC global and Content.
The 35,0000-capacity Olimpiyskiy Stadium (Olympic Stadium) will host the event, with tickets going on sale to the general public on June 1.
It is worth reminding, earlier Dana white, who heads the organization, said that the Russian tournament likely to take place without the participation of the current champion of UFC in the easiest weight category Russian citizen named Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Early on Wednesday, the UFC made it official with an announcement on their Twitter account. Based in Moscow, Gromkovski will be leading the regional strategic plan for UFC Russia, working alongside UFC's executive team in Las Vegas and the EMEA team based in London.
No fights have yet been announced for the event, which is a "Fight Night" card as opposed to a pay-per-view event. He is now the Editor-in-Chief of Campus Sports.
