The Rapide AMR has a limited production of 210 cars.
Aston Martin's local arm has confirmed the Rapide AMR will be priced from $459,950 plus on-road costs. The new bonnet with large ventilation inserts is also made from carbon fibre to minimise weight. "With enhanced performance, sharper dynamics and more powerful design language, Aston Martin has taken Rapide to new and exciting extremes". For starters, the 5.9 litre naturally-aspirated V12 (the brand markets it as a 6.0 litre) gets larger inlet manifolds derived from the Vantage GT12 as well as new calibration for the engine and eight-speed Touchtronic III automatic gearbox.
Regardless of the region, however, all Rapide AMRs produce the same 630Nm of torque. Despite the changes, the Rapide AMR shares the same 0-100 km/h time as the 560 PS-rated Rapide S at 4.4 seconds, but has a slightly higher top speed of 330 km/h (versus 327 km/h). The forged multi-spokes have been created to be not only stiff but allow plenty of air to flow through, helping keep the brakes cooling. The sedan has the modified brake ducts and dust shields from the Vanquish S that help cooling, according to the company.
The carbon ceramic discs are also part of AMR's ethos to use lightweight components whilst reducing unsprung mass they have a noticeably beneficial effect on the driving experience.
To handle the boost in power, Aston fits three-mode adaptive dampers and lowers the ride height by 0.4 inches (10 millimeters).
Andy Palmer, President and CEO, Aston Martin said, "AMR takes technology and inspiration from our motorsport programme to amplify the sporting prowess in our road cars which is clear to see in the Rapide AMR, Aston Martin's most extreme, 4-door sports vehicle". Much of this development work has been completed at the newly opened AMR Performance Centre at the Nürburgring.
There is a choice of thee different design schemes - Standard, Silhouette and Signature. The Signature trim channels the factory racing livery in dark green with lime green accents and stripe. The seats have Alcantara upholstery and customers can choose between AMR Lime or Galena Silver highlights.
The full-length centre console comes in carbon fibre, seats are trimmed in Alcantara and each vehicle will come with a limited-edition AMR inspection plaque. Every example features AMR logos stitched into the front perches, a limited-edition AMR inspection plaque and AMR branding on the carbon sill plates. Optionally available for the full race vehicle experience are carbon paddle shifters, a One-77 steering wheel and, er, an umbrella.
If the three standard design schemes are not enough, customers will be able to avail themselves of the Q by Aston Martin program to add further special touches.
Pricing for the Rapide AMR starts at £194,950 ($344,219) in the United Kingdom and US$240,000 ($316,860) in North America.
