"As a head and neck surgeon, I am educated to kind of discover this stuff", he mentioned.
McGuinness, already a brain cancer survivor, went to a doctor and was ultimately diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
In his line of work, he has seen thousands of patients with the same issue, and when he saw Nicole's lump was asymmetrical and moving under her skin as she spoke, the doctor got anxious.
"I am watching a tv show and notice this woman has a left thyroid mass".
During an episode of the HGTV show, Beachfront Bargain Hunt, a woman who appeared on the show got the shock of her life when a viewer happened to notice something about her that was not right. He shared how the woman is in need of a sonogram and biopsy.
Voight later uploaded another follow up post on Facebook and credited the incredible power Facebook and the good people had for actually being able to help McGuinness.
"We were sort of in shock, we did not expect a doctor, on television, from states away that we did not know to come up with some kind of diagnosis", Nicole told Good Morning America.
McGuiness is now undergoing the treatment for thyroid cancer and has plans to stay in contact with Voigt.
Signs of the disease include swelling, changes to one's voice and lumps like the one that Dr Voigt noticed on Nicole's throat. After two weeks, he got in touch with the woman, who is 32-years-old.
"It's just a miracle, in my opinion, that he happened to see this on television", McGuinness told ABC News.
"I noticed that she had a lump in her neck", Voigt recalls to ABC News.
She said that she has an excellent and trusted oncology team at Duke University - plus, Dr Voigt "by [her] side".
