Shkaplerov was travelling back to Moscow, reportedly with a football that might be used in the World Cup later this month.
Footage from the Russian space agency Roscosmos showed the Soyuz descent module carrying the three touch down as recovery helicopters circled over the landing site.
After landing, Shkaplerov ate from a bowl of grapes and said he was feeling well and happy to be back on Earth.
"We are a bit exhausted but happy with what we have accomplished and happy to be back on Earth. We are glad the weather is sunny". There they will undergo a longer medical exam and then be flown either to Moscow or Houston. More specifically, the astronauts brought back home the soccer ball that would be used in the opening game of the World Cup 2018, held in Russian Federation.
The official ball of the championship was delivered to the ISS on March 24, cosmonaut Anton by shkaplerov.
Three astronauts are preparing for a fiery re-entry through the Earth's atmosphere at more than 500mph, after five months in space and 2,688 orbits of their planet.
Tingle also completed a spacewalk to mend the station's robotic arm.
But one Kanai tweet in January caused confusion after he mistakenly claimed to have grown taller by nine centimetres just weeks after arriving on board the ISS.
NASA's Serena Aunon-Chancellor, Russia's Sergey Prokopyev, and Germany's Alexander Gerst, of the European Space Agency, will be the latest residents of the ISS.
"An official Telstar 18 ball was brought to the space station for this goal and it's planned to be returned to Earth with the crew of the Soyuz MS-07 spacecraft on June 3", Roscosmos stated earlier.
The ISS, one of the few examples of cooperation between Russian Federation and the United States, has been in orbit since 1998, orbiting at a speed of 28,000 km/hour.
The three had been on the orbital laboratory since mid-December, with Shkaplerov, 46, serving as mission commander from February until he turned over command to American Drew Feustel on Saturday.
Space research has been one of the few areas of global cooperation between Russian Federation and the West that has not been wrecked by the Ukraine crisis.
