Capcom has revealed a lengthy gameplay trailer for its upcoming remake of Resident Evil 2, and it's not skimping on the red stuff. There's claret all over the shop, including one sequence where some poor cop gets ripped in half by marauding zombies.
By bringing back HUNK and Tofu, Capcom is showing its willingness to pay homage to the original Resident Evil 2 while also changing some things to better appeal to modern gamers. It's a controversial move that some old-timers may find hard to swallow, but there's no denying the game looks absolutely gorgeous. The remake will give players a third person over the shoulder view, like some of the more recent Resident Evil games not counting Resident Evil 7, which was in first person. The classic video game is being remade for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Like the Resident Evil remake for GameCube back in 2002, this game was also built from the ground up.
Some may be anxious that the over-the-shoulder camera may make the game feel too different to the original Resident Evil 2, but the trailers indicate that the remake is going to be very faithful to the original. It remains to be seen what conditions will need to be met in the Resident Evil 2 remake to unlock these modes, but that should come to light once the game is actually released. Or which is your favorite Resident Evil game? Both Leon and Claire have their own separate playable campaigns, allowing players to see the story from both characters' perspectives.
What hasn't changed is the original version of Resident Evil 2's brilliant horror atmosphere.
Resident Evil 2 Remake is coming to the PC on January 25th!
