The only gearbox available is the Tremec six-speed manual. As usual the 2019 GT350 will act as the ideal balance between the regular Mustang and the track-bred GT350R, but Ford consulted with Billy Johnson, FIA World Endurance driver for Ford GT, to help the GT350 achieve better performance on the circuit.
"Along with improved grip, brake and chassis refinements, Shelby GT350 brings a whole new level of performance driving", Billy Johnson, driver for FIA World Endurance Ford GT and IMSA Mustang GT4, said in a corresponding news release.
"It's a rewarding auto to drive on track for amateurs as well as pros", he said.
Ford furthermore says the Mustang Shelby GT350's standard MagneRide active suspension has been updated with recalibrated springs and revised damping.
For even better track action, the GT350 has gained grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires with a Shelby-specific tread pattern.
Ford in the United States has taken the wraps off an updated version of its Mustang Shelby GT350, describing it as the "ultimate track Mustang". Six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo brakes carry over, but the calibration has been revised, as has the calibration for both the three-mode stability control and the electric power steering system-all in an effort to improve driver feedback.
Inside, Ford has channeled early Shelby trim styling with an engine-turned aluminium instrument panel appliqué (also available in carbon fibre for an edgier new-millenium look) and Recaro racing seats with firm side bolsters and built-in slots for a racing harness. There's also a new high-performance 12-speaker audio system provided by Harman, and a now-standard eight-inch Sync 3 touchscreen system.
Finishing off the list of exterior mods, Ford has added Velocity Blue and Ford Performance Blue to the range of available colors.
Carroll Shelby was one of the first Americans to realise that if you keep throwing more and more power into a vehicle without upgrading the running gear, you wind up with an unruly monster that won't stop or go round corners.
