President Donald Trump defended his summit meeting Kim Jong-un and his statements vouching for the North Korean dictator's love of his people, saying his actions potentially saved millions of lives. Now he just has to get everyone else on board.
China's foreign ministry issued a statement praising the resolve of Mr Trump and Mr Kim.
Trump tweeted that the that the deal "is being praised and celebrated all over Asia". Human rights groups estimate that as many as 70,000 Christians are now held in inhumane conditions in prison camps in North Korea, where they are killed and occasionally publicly executed for their faith. Clearly this president believes his smarts will get results from North Korea, where previous presidents met failure.
When Baier pointed out Kim's regime imprisons, tortures and kills his own people, Trump replied, "Yeah, but so have other people done some really bad things".
Chuck Schumer in a tweet on Sunday for downplaying the significance of his summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un, proclaiming he's stopped the "rockets flying all over the place".
"Our world has seen more than enough conflict".
This is the beginning of the process toward the denuclearisation of North Korea.
"I have solved that problem", Trump said. He joked that even the administration-friendly Fox News was not as lavish in its praise as the state TV anchor, one of the people added, and that maybe she should get a job on US television, instead. "Also, quite provocative", he said.
North Korean state media released video from the visit of Trump reaching out to shake the hand of the minister of the People's Armed Forces, who instead saluted during the summit in Singapore. In North Korea's interpretation, say North Korea experts, this means an end to the USA troop presence in South Korea and nuclear umbrella over that country and Japan - without any corresponding specifics on eliminating its own nuclear program.
It's unclear if Trump is referring to his White House staff or American constituents in general when he said "my people". -South Korea military exercises that many military leaders consider essential to South Korea's defense, but North Korea has long considered an irritant.
As The Huffington Post noted, Trump also called Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi a "fantastic guy" approved of how he "took control" during a 2013 coup that left thousands of protesters dead. The latest departure news is that White House legislative director Marc Short has told staff he'll leave this summer, said two White House officials who were not authorized to speak publicly.
