According to Variety, Netflix favorites like The Crown and Stranger Things are to thank for its success with this year's nominations. "The continued growth of the industry has provided opportunities for acclaimed new programs to emerge, while allowing last season's breakthrough programs to thrive".
"The Handmaid's Tale, " the dystopian sci-fi series that claimed top drama honors last year, drew 20 bids, including one for last year's best actress victor, Elisabeth Moss, and supporting bids for Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Yvonne Strahovski and Joseph Fiennes.
"We're grateful to all our nominees for making this the eighth year we've had 100 nominations or more".
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences could announce ten nominees in each category, and people would still be upset that this certain show or that certain performer got ignored. Game Of Thrones was the dominant series.
FX's true crime dramatization "The Assassination of Gianni Versace" led the limited series category with 18 nominations, including a best actor nod for Darren Criss who plays the killer of the gay Italian fashion designer.

She wasn't nominated for an Emmy in 2017, either.
The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Sunday, September 17 on NBC.
