We may continue to see Mods roll off production lines, but based off Barkat's comments, it seems as though the 5G Mod might be one of the last few truly interesting Moto Mods to break cover.
There's a fingerprint reader on the side of the device (instead of the front or back) and dual 12MP depth-sensing cameras on the back.
Like all of the previous members of the Moto Z family, the Moto Z3 will support the growing number of Moto Mods, the add-on accessories that attach to the back of these phones to add features like more battery life, better cameras and speakers, and much more. To enjoy the 5G network on the Moto Z3, users will need to separately buy the 5G Moto Mod after the network is official.
Motorola has also brought the 5G Moto Mod that is created to deliver a next-generation experience on the Moto Z3.
In the USA, the Moto Z3 comes only in Ceramic Black color and will be costing around $480 (approx Rs 33,000). However, in a surprising decision, Motorola has opted to equip the Moto Z3 with last year's Snapdragon 835 processor, rather than the Snapdragon 845 chipset found in the latest flagships. 5G Moto Mod is said to offer up to 10 times the speed of the current wireless technology as well as lower latency and higher bandwidth. There is an 8-megapixel image sensor at the front for selfies with 1.12 micron pixels and 84-degree field of view. The phone is backed by a 3,000mAh battery, and it comes with support for TurboPower charging, claimed to offer half a day's power in half an hour. In early 2019, Verizon is expected to roll out 5G services across four cities in the US.
Moto Z3 comes in one colour of "ceramic black".
-The Moto Z3 is splash resistant, but Motorola hasn't yet specified the IP rating.
These questions will likely surface as the 5G Moto Mod's release nears.
Another perk of attaching the 5G Moto Mod to the Moto Z3 is that it will give you an additional 2,000mAh of capacity.
Externally, it's fair to say that the smartphone doesn't really bring anything new to the table. Pricing for this accessory will be announced later this year. For $480, that is cheaper than a OnePlus 6 but we guess that since it does not feature any attractive hardware specifications, the price is justified.
