Larson's costume is very reflective of the comics. In the comics, Monica Rambeau was the second Captain Marvel, before eventually taking the codename Photon. In the after-credits scene of "Avengers: Infinity War", Fury sends an alert to Captain Marvel before disappearing from the Thanos snap.
She adds, "But what makes her special is just how human she is".
Captain Marvel is the first female superhero from MCU. So, if we do origin films, internally, we talk about how we can subvert that structure.
Type-cast villain guy Ben Mendelsohn is unsurprisingly going to be a villain in this movie as Talos, leader of Skrulls. Jude Law plays the commander of the Kree's elite military team, Starforce. She sounds like the kind of woman that's going to, alongside Okoye, Shuri, and Hope van Dyne, lead the MCU into a courageous new world of female representation. EW also reveals that Danvers will already have her powers - the cause of which is her DNA fusing with that of a Kree's during an accident - at the start of the film. Boden and Fleck worked on the script in addition to Meg LeFauve (Inside Out), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider), and Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch (GLOW).
We already know that Captain Marvel is set in the 90s and this makes it the second period film in MCU after Captain America: The First Avenger. And she's got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls - the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more risky by their shape-shifting abilities. It even features a Nick Fury who's got two good eyes and a desk job at SHIELD.
So far, with the first reveal just being a "Captain Marvel" cover and photos, there's nothing "break the Internet" worthy. Reprising their roles from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy are Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace, and returning once again to a Marvel Studios film will be Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson.
