"The PM has betrayed India, He has dishonoured the blood of our soldiers", Rahul tweeted.
"Why is the prime minister silent?"
The opposition, led by Congress President Rahul Gandhi, spent the past year alleging that the deal is a scam, in which India is overpaying for jets and the government is allowing a private company - billionaire Indian businessman Anil Ambani's Reliance Defense - to benefit instead of state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
In a two-hour interaction, the Congress president continually alleged that the RSS was out to attack independent institutions and was trying to take over the education system. It brings under strain the Narendra Modi government's attempts to distance itself from the selection of a company belonging to Anil Ambani's Reliance group as an offset partner by Dassault, maker of the fighter planes.
Francois Hollande had claimed that the Indian government mooted role for Anil Ambani's in Rafale deal. He told French news site Mediapart.fr that his government was told to partner with a specific Indian firm, Reliance Group, for additional "offset" investments. "Dassault Aviation and Reliance have built a plant in Nagpur for manufacturing parts for Falcon and Rafale aircraft", the company said.
For that, the French firm picked Reliance and not Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the state-run giant that has been producing planes for decades, a lot of them Russian under license. Modi government has denied those allegations. In this framework, and in accordance with the policy of "Make in India", Dassault Aviation has decided to make a partnership with India's Reliance Group.
In its defence, Reliance Entertainment had said that there is nothing to hide.
Hollande has been quoted in an article by the French website as claiming that the Indian government had asked the French government to nominate Reliance Defence as its India partner in the Rafale jet offset deal. The BJP didn't react on the fresh revelations in the Rafale deal controversy on which the Union Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had so far been leading the charge against the Opposition Congress. The UPA government was earlier negotiating a deal to procure 126 Rafale jets, with 18 to come in flyaway condition and 108 to be manufactured by HAL under licence.
On Friday, Hollande, who cleared the intergovernmental deal when he was in office, was quoted as saying New Delhi had put pressure on Dassault to choose Reliance. "This is Dassault Aviation's choice", the French company said. "If you can wipe out Rs 250,000 crore loan of the richest people in India, why cannot you give relief to farmers", he said.
"It is reiterated that neither government of India nor French government had any say in the commercial decision", it said.
