Though she declined to recall a single positive memory with Farrow in the interview, Previn does acknowledge that when her mother discovered their relationship after finding nude photographs of Previn on Allen's mantel, "it would have been disgusting for her". Around 1991, when she was 21, Soon-Yi and Allen began a secret relationship.
Soon-Yi Previn, Woody Allen's wife of 20 years and Mia Farrow's adoptive daughter, has broken her silence in a lengthy and explosive interview with NY magazine.
"I was never interested in writing a Mommie Dearest, getting even with Mia - none of that", Previn said. And in the late 80s, while Farrow was in a long-term relationship with Woody Allen, it was discovered that Allen was also pursuing Soon-Yi Previn, who was just around 20 years old at the time.
But here we are, almost a year after Allen's adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow reminded the media about the molestation allegations she made against the filmmaker decades ago, prompting stars and studios alike to distance themselves from him.
'I am a pariah, ' he said during a lunch with the author.
"I think he is, but I wouldn't bet my life on it", he told her. It is Soon-Yi's story, told from her point of view to a sympathetic writer- a friend and admirer of Allen.
From the beginning, Previn and her mother were "like oil and water", she said.
"None of us ever witnessed anything other than compassionate treatment in our home, which is why the courts granted sole custody to our mother of all her children", it read. And here was a chance for someone showing me affection and being nice to me, so of course I was thrilled and ran for it. Previn told the magazine that her mother slapped her, "called everyone" and threw her out of the apartment they had shared.
Allen, 82, and Previn have been married since 1997 - but the actress admitted she initially hated the director because he was dating Mia. At all turns, she rejects the idea that she was groomed, the piece describing her account of dates with Allen on Knicks games and to Bergman movies as, eerily enough, "a scene straight out of a Woody Allen movie". I'm standing there rigidly, thinking, Who is this woman, and can she get her hands off of me?
Previn was adopted by Mia Farrow and Farrow's former husband Andre Previn, from South Korea at the age of six.
Four years later, Farrow began a relationship with Woody Allen with whom she would eventually adopt Dylan Farrow in 1985 and give birth to Ronan Farrow in 1987 (yes, the same Ronan Farrow who broke the Harvey Weinstein and Les Moonves sexual misconduct stories in The New Yorker in the past year).
"Survivors of abuse deserve better".
She described the household of Farrow and Previn as volatile. She also recounts psychological abuse and both her parents' "bone-chilling tempers".
The interview, it's worth noting, was conducted by Daphne Merkin, a friend of Allen's for over 40 years.
The Pulitzer Prize victor said in a statement late Sunday he owes everything to Mia Farrow, and called the magazine story a "hit job, written by a longtime admirer and friend of Woody Allen's".
The famed filmmaker addressed the speculation that the son he shares with ex-partner Mia Farrow is actually Frank Sinatra's love child. "As a journalist, I'm shocked by the lack of care for the facts, the refusal to include eyewitness testimony that would contradict falsehoods in this pieces, and the failre to print my sister's responses", Ronan added.
