Wade, 36, is a 12-time All-Star, eight-time All-NBA performer and a three-time NBA chamipon.
Retirement needs to wait a little bit longer for Wade, who announced Sunday night in a video taped earlier in the day that he's returning to the Miami Heat for a 16th and final National Basketball Association season.
Expect many players to pay homage to Wade over the course of his final year. While the team had seen its fair share of stars come and go with the likes of Shaquille O'Neal and Lebron James, Dwyane Wade has always been the most synonymous with the Heat organization even when he spent 1.5 seasons away from South Beach during brief stints with the Bulls and Cavaliers.
Wade called his last season his "Sweet 16". And what I feel is right ...
Wade said that the decision is based on his family.
Miami kept one roster spot open for Wade and was prepared to give him as much time as he needed to make a decision.
Following Miami's playoff exit, rumors began swirling around that Wade has played his last game in the National Basketball Association.
"With him not being there past year, that was it", Wade admitted.
The plan going into this season will be to keep Wade in that reserve role, probably somewhere between 20 and 25 minutes per game. I have heard everything from my family to my fans around the world to what I should and shouldn't do.
"These things to you guys may seem small", Wade said.
After spending the entire summer considering his National Basketball Association future, Dwyane Wade has finally come to a decision. Wade would eventually say that he felt lost at times last season without Thomas, that he wasn't always getting the same joy out of playing the game as he once did.
