The Houston-area blitz unfolded ahead of Trump's visit to the city on Monday rally for Cruz, Trump's former bitter rival in the 2016 presidential race. People were shocked. I said, 'Don't worry, it's only a question of time, ' " Trump said.
Trump headed to Cruz's home city to boost momentum for his onetime foe on the first day of early voting in Texas.
"I think Beto O'Rourke is highly overrated".
Last month in an interview with the Texas Tribune Cruz declined to pledge to stay in the senate for the entire length of his term.
Campus Reform asked students at Texas A&M University who supported Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) to name one accomplishment of his, and many struggled to name even one.
The 47-year-old junior senator from Texas fired off insults of his own, calling Trump a "pathological liar" and "utterly amoral". "What I told the president the week after the election, I said, "Mr. President, I want to do everything humanly possible to roll up my sleeves and lead the fight in the Senate to deliver on our promises'". I said, it will end - and it did - and then it got back. "I think, like a lot of political relationships, they're often transactional". After declining to endorse Trump during the Republican National Convention, he changed course in September 2016 and begrudgingly offered his support. "Ted and I get along very well. No, he's been really terrific", Trump said.
The president said initially he thought Cruz's opponent O'Rourke "must be something a little special".
