The Woolsey Fire threatening the beachside town is now sweeping through the Santa Monica mountains, after making it across the freeway on Friday morning.
A wildfire that moved so fast firefighters didn't even try to stop it killed five people, authorities said Friday as the blaze quadrupled in size after leveling much of a Northern California town of almost 30,000 people.

On Friday, officials ordered the evacuation of the star-studded beachside community of Malibu as a wildfire encroached upon it.
"Fire is now burning out of control and heading into populated areas of Malibu", the city said in a statement online.
According to authorities, five people were burned alive while trying to flee in vehicles in Northern California.

The other fire burning to the west in Ventura County was also moving toward the ocean but its pace was slowed as it moved into the footprint of a 2013 wildfire that devoured vegetation on the far end of the Santa Monica range.
Los Angeles County fire strike teams and water dropping aircraft were working to contain the flames on or around the Pepperdine campus.
In a news conference, Cal Fire Capt. Scott McLean said, "Pretty much the community of Paradise is destroyed".
The full extent of the destruction in the county was still unknown, but authorities said they believe as many as 2,000 buildings have been destroyed - most of those in Paradise. Some were forced to abandon their cars and sprint to safety as the intense flames closed in.
The Woolsey Fire started near the Rocketdyne facility in Simi Valley on Thursday afternoon and spread rapidly due to strong winds in the area.
The entire city of Malibu was under an unprecedented mandatory evacuation, in addition to areas south of the 101 Freeway, from the Ventura line to Malibu Canyon.
The Woolsey Fire is one of two blazes burning just miles from the site of Wednesday night's mass shooting in Thousand Oaks.
About 1:30 a.m., all residents south of the Ventura Freeway between Westlake Boulevard on the west, Mulholland Highway to the south and Las Virgenes Road to the east were told to leave the area immediately, according to Malibu Search and Rescue.
The director of the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services says fires across California have forced 157,000 people from their homes.
"Extreme fire behaviour with risky rates of spread are expected", says an incident update, adding that the fire will continue to burn in the south west direction, threatening the City of Orville.
