In typical Skip Bayless fashion, the TV personality says the Rockets' woes might help LeBron James and the Lakers sneak into the playoffs this season in the rugged Western Conference.
He spent the past three seasons with Phoenix, and he averaged 6.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game a year ago.
Asked what it is like to play alongside James, he said: "I can't describe it, it's awesome".
Tyson Chandler made his Lakers debut in the first quarter and scored his first basket with his new team when he tipped in a Rajon Rondo miss with 5:11 remaining in the second quarter. "It's incredible. I haven't played with a closer like that since Dirk".
Leading by a point late in the game, the Lakers missed three shots with less than a minute to play, two on 3-point attempts from James. Former league MVP Rose produced a stunning display, scoring 31 points, including 7-for-9 from three-point range, and narrowed the gap to one with just a minute left. Therefore, they went out and signed Tyson Chandler earlier this week.
"The way [Derrick] Rose was shooting the ball towards the end we needed every last one of those rebounds".
Part of the problem has been the lack of options.
The Lakers didn't have a true backup center on their roster before they added Chandler and their defense struggled when starter JaVale McGee headed to the bench. Thus, creating a center presence the Lakers haven't had in a while.
Chandler was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2011-12, earning Third Team All-NBA honors.
The Los Angeles Lakers were -22 over their past five games in the rebounding battle prior to Thursday's game against the Wolves. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain by adding an experienced, smart, and composed veteran to their lineup-especially at the center position.
At best, they'll finally start winning, and everyone can relax.
