Barça's joy turned out to be short-lived, as Inter's Mauro Icardi won the race to a dead ball in the area and beat keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to bring the hosts level.
Barca lead the group with nine points from three games followed by Inter on six while PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham have one point each.
"It is a pleasure to see Messi play but I hope he can hold a little more on the bench", Zanetti said to Marca.
"I have the impression that the Champions League is already a Super League", Valverde said.
The piece of play from Dembele was so good that Brozovic was forced to do his signature "crocodile" maneuver in the game rather than from a set-piece and some say he's still sliding as we speak.
"You do not know what can happen and we didn't want to take risks". We would like to win, of course", and then added "We need to control the game to try to reach the goal.
"We had a great game", Valverde said.
The 21-year-old scored nearly instantly but Mauro Icardi cancelled it out with a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw.
"It seemed as though the match was going to finish 0-0".
The Catalan giant can clinch top spot in Group B by beating Inter at San Siro on Tuesday, but Valverde is expecting Luciano Spalletti's side to pose a tougher challenge than it did in its first meeting.
Despite only picking up a draw in the end, Barcelona's performance was much improved from their last match against 19th placed Rayo Vallecano.
"If it's Barcelona, they will have to pay €100m and if I am them I would pay a €20m tip on top", coach Spalletti told a news conference.
Instead, the more diligent Rafinha was named in the starting line-up at home to Inter last month and the Brazilian justified Ernesto Valverde's faith by scoring the opener against the same club he played for on loan only five months ago.
