These new names include the Samsung Infinity Flex, the Samsung Infinity O and Samsung Infinity U, these new trademarks were recently filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
World's leading smartphone-maker Samsung had previously announced to showcase the game-changing mobile with true bendable features at the upcoming Samsung Developer Conference 2018 in the second week of November.
Both, however, have been pipped to the post by Royole, a Chinese display making start-up, which last week unveiled a foldable phone with a 7.8 inch screen, priced from around US$1,300. We are expecting it to either be powered by a Samsung Exynos processor of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. Samsung's annual Developer Conference is scheduled to take place later this week, and Samsung has confirmed it will be previewing the phone at the show. You fold the phone up when it's in your pocket or purse for a compact device, and then when it's time to do some real work, you can open the phone for a much bigger display. The phone will use a hinge mechanism that will allow smooth folding and unfolding of the device.
"Manufacturers who produce them now are demonstrating technology leadership, and will also be the first with serious applications for foldable screens".
The flip phones of the early 2000s may be making a comeback next year, but instead of a small screen and physical keyboard, the new iteration will have a foldable display that opens up to a screen size similar to that of a small tablet. Apart from the foldable display itself, the challenge has been in accommodating the battery, camera module and other internal hardware.
