Sports indicated Meyer's final game will be the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day. Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ryan Day will take over as head coach.
Meyer is expected to formally announced at a press conference Tuesday afternoon that he's retiring as the head coach of the Buckeyes, following this year's Rose Bowl game against Washington.
In his 17 seasons as a head coach, Meyer compiled a 186-32 record.
There has been never-ending speculation about Meyer's future since his health has been on display for the past two months.
Meyer said he knew about the accusations against Smith - grandson of former Ohio State coach Earle Bruce - but wasn't sure they were true and kept Smith on his staff because no criminal charges were filed. News conference at 2 p.m. today in Columbus.
"I plan on coaching", he said on October 29. This also isn't the first time Meyer has stepped away from coaching. Asked if he would definitely return to Ohio State next year, he answered, "Yes".
Ohio State faces Washington in the Rose Bowl on January 1 in Pasadena, California.
Meyer, 54, is 82-9 in his seven seasons with the Buckeyes, winning three Big Ten titles, and one national championship in 2014. Meyer was suspended for the first three games of the season after an investigation revealed that he mishandled domestic assault allegations made against former wide receivers coach Zach Smith, who was sacked in late June. It appeared to be a dream job for the Toledo native and success quickly followed. The team was 3-0 under him to start the 2018 season.
